So the agenda for Tuesday's meeting was not posted on the city webpage because of a software glitch,Read More hence the rescheduling of the meeting. So what has been the excuse for not posting, or removing, the Finance Director job description for the past many months? A software glitch? Who gives the orders to post or not post documents on the city webpage?

Susan, Hiring within is acceptable if there is a QUALIFIED person within. For example, did Mrs.Read More Warmerdam possess the qualifications of Finance Director? How the he_l would I know? No job description (with stated qualifications) was posted on the city webpage. And our current city council who reads the Patch and heard our discussion never commented or forced the issue because maybe they want this person in the position regardless of qualifications? How is it such a critical job position is being handled in such a loosey-goosey fashion? And the person who appointed her was fired from position as City Manager, but remains on the payroll as a consultant? Who made that decision? I'm guessing the FD had some say in this. To an outsider, it looks like everyone is taking care of each other, Chicago style (minus the Chicago style pizza). If everyone possesses the stated qualifications (still unknown), then I might be ok with this. Just a bit more transparency, please. We Herculeans have trust issues and rightfully so. A posted job description is a commitment to quality, not a commitment to one's friends.

Here's an exercise someone can perform using the Public Records Act. Declare yourselfRead More (Joe/Josephine Citizen) the "anti-cronyism auditor." No one else is doing this for us, right? I'm assuming that there used to be a job description for Finance Director, probably archived somewhere. Request a copy of it. Then, request a copy of the resumes of both the previous FD, current FD, and future FD. They are public employees, so you are permitted to request this information. The way the auditing process works is if you find irregularities with your initial sample, you then expand the audit to all positions to determine the extent of the problem. Since I proposed this exercise, I'll request this information and report my findings here.

This is a sad day. Sylvester was a remarkable person. I first met him when he was the ViceRead More Principal at Portola at a time when my children attended there. Later I knew him both professionally and as a friend and had the utmost respect and admiration for him. His retirement celebration was an amazing event. My heartfelt condolences to his family. Sylvia is carrying on the family tradition of excellence. Best Wishes Sylvia, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I will miss Sylvester Greenwood. He helped one of my students who was possibly going to be expelledRead More when I was teaching at Downer. He was very compassionate toward my student and his mother. I also remember the many years when Sylvester took the public speaking cards for the School Board meetings. He was involved in so many things! I will miss him.
