<p>Hercules Middle/High School opened its doors to the city's youth in 2001. Before its grand opening, Hercules preteens and teens traveled to nearby schools such as Pinole Valley High.</p>
<p>The city's only middle and high school educates students from grades 6 to 12. Last school year, 768 students were middle schoolers and 1107 were high schoolers. The average class size was between 25 and 29.5 students for the high school and 26 to 31.5 for the middle school. An administration and library complex physically separates middle school level students from high school students.</p> <p>Hercules Middle/High School is part of the West Contra Costa School District. Last year, the high school spent $5,732 per student -- compared to $4,536 per student in the district and  $5,512 in the state. However, $843 of Hercules High School's expenditures was supplemental. The middle school spent $3,886 per student --compared to $4,536 per student in the district and  $5,512 in the state. $811 of Hercules Middle School's expenditures was supplemental.</p> <p>From the most recent data (2007-2008), the graduation rate was 85.5 percent, which was 7.4 percent higher than the graduation rate average for other schools in the district and 5.6 percent higher than the state average. For the same year, the dropout rate was 3.5 percent, the district's dropout rate was 5.4 and the state's was 3.9.</p> <p>Hercules Middle / High School spans more than a mile and is located amidst the Refugio Valley hills. Along with standard education, it offers special education for students with disabilities as well as a Gifted And Talented Program.</p> <p>Parents are encouraged to get involved with Hercules Middle/High School by volunteering at one of the school's programs or serving on one of its committees.</p> <p>Guy Zakrevsky serves as principal. The school's mascot is the Titans and its newspaper is the <i>Titan Template</i>. Hercules Middle/High School's motto is "Titans R.E.S.P.E.C.T." for Responsible lifelong learners, Exemplary scholars, Self-aware healthy individuals, Problem solvers, Effective engaged communication, Citizens of the world and Technology integrators. </p>
