The 7-Eleven chain, which opened its first store in 1927, is celebrating on Wednesday its 85th anniversary. There aren't any store in Hercules, but odds are residents will meet with a store in any direction beyond city limits.
That means: "7-Eleven Day" is almost here, with free Slurpees for everyone.
As an annual tradition, 7-Eleven patrons receive free 7.11-ounce Slurpees between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. July 11.
The celebration also marks the 45th anniversary of the creation of the Slurpee, itself.
“This year we expect to give away 7 million Slurpee drinks, more than ever before, beating last year’s offer by 2 million," said Joe DePinto, 7-Eleven president and CEO, on the company's Web site.
For folks who want to "dress" for the occasion, the company has also created downloadable birthday attire – tiny bowties, hair bows and two sizes of party hats.
More details also are available on the company's Facebook.
Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is getting in on the action, as well, offering a special admission price of $7.11 to guests after 7:11 p.m. on 7-Eleven Day, when they present a receipt from a 7-Eleven purchase dated 7/11/12.
Guests will receive a VIP wristband to attend the “Exclusive 7-Eleven Coasters After Dark” event that evening.
