The Baltimore Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl XLVII 34-31 Sunday.
A power outage at the Superdome in New Orleans interrupted the game for 35 minutes, with the 49ers trailing the Baltimore Ravens 28-6. When the power came back on, the 49ers cut the Ravens' lead to 34-31, making a big comeback.
In the end, however, the Ravens pulled off a win.

Now, if someone reports rioting or fires or general mayhem in downtown Redwood City or a neighboring Peninsula town because of the Niners' loss -- THAT is alert-worthy breaking news.
I figured the bad calls in the first half would be evened out. Didn't happen. Pass interference in the end zone = first and goal from the one. Holding on the punt/safety = enough time to fair catch the kick, run a play, call timeout and maybe kick the tying field goal. Just sayin'.
Tough luck. Maybe you will get a good coaching effort from Harbaugh next time, if there is one. He is a complete tool and his game plan fell way short. Did not establish Gore early enough, another failure to get solid looks at wide receivers (not counting Davis, who should have had 200 yards himself). Complaining about the referees is just comical. But I guess they did also miss 5 or 6 holding calls on the 49ers during the failed comeback. The futility of the last 18 years continues.
Ask Roddy White and and Falcons about pass interference in the end zone...
Need a shutdown corner and the sky is the limit. Can't wait until next year.

I was surprised that the TV commentators didn't make any mention (that I heard) about this holding. It was clear to me. It prevented an earlier tackle of the runner/holder by about 4 seconds. And Jim Harbough didn't seem to notice or call the refs over to stink about it (to make the upstairs ref box have to think about and review it). I WONDER WHAT THE REAL RULES EFFECT OF CALLING THE HOLDING WOULD HAVE BEEN? Here's what I think. If someone knows more accurately, enlighten us. If the 49ers declined, then the same end result. If 49ers had accepted, then it would be a 5 yard loss (or half distance to goal) and a replay of the 4th down. This time the replay would be (1) with the 49er players looking for the safety and possibly less time off of the clock or (2) a kick with more squeeze and possibilities of errors and less kicking distance. It would have been nice to see that played out, although little chance of 49ers winning. The real question is how would the TIMING have worked? ,,,,
Would the clock be stopped at the time of the penalty occurance (the hold) or back at the time of the hike or not turned back at all? Would the clock start again when the ball was hiked for the replay of the 4th down? The Ravens could then either do the Safety again or do the kick. It would have been interesting to see one last 49er pass to the end zone or an Ackers kick! (There was no talk about this at the time, but maybe these details were discussed in the post-game show. But I turned off and tuned out.)
So the idea that the 49ers are going to definitely get back there next year is wishful thinking at this point. It's unlikely, but I hope they do!
I am not sure what the ultimate outcome would have been if it was properly officiated but it most definitely would not have been the same game I watched. What a disgraceful display by the NFL on their biggest stage.
Well said comment! There should have been an early pass-interference call on the 49ers as well. If the refs had been making calls in the early game, players would have had to play by the rules throughout. Instead they let there be numerous late whistles and late hits (where one guy had the runner stopped with a tackle and then other guys were allowed to hit him--very physically dangerous and with game-changing possibilities of injuries and fumbles) and also over aggressive shoving/fighting after the point (mostly started by the Ravens). I thought the officiating was poor and changed the nature of the game. Wasn't this almost the fewest penalty calls that these teams have EVER had? (I'd like to hear those statistics.) Did these teams change that much from their previous season play that they now weren't doing penalties? I doubt it.
