A new way of funding schools means that West Contra Costa Unified School District will be receiving a lot more money per pupil than it has in recent years. The Local Control Funding Formula awards bigger payments to school districts with more students who are poor, learning English or in foster care. By some estimates, WCCUSD could be getting nearly $11,000 per student by 2020, compared to around $7,000 this school year.
Making sure that parents have a say in how the money is spent is part of the new law. To help people better understand the Local Control Funding Formula, WCCUSD has scheduled a series of community meetings in January and February.
All meetings below start at 6:30 p.m. and are scheduled to end at 8 p.m.
