Sycamore North to Withstand Early Rains Non-Weatherized

The city manager says early storms won't affect the condition on the half-built Sycamore North building, the Contra Costa Times reported.

The mixed-use residenatial-retail building Sycamore North will remain mostly unprotected from the elements as the rainy weather season approached early this week.

Interim City Manager Liz Warmerdam said initial storms won't present a problem to the structure, the Contra Costa Times reported Monday. But she said water damage could occur if the building is not weatherized by the end of the season, the Times reported.

As the city looks for a buyer to purchase and complete the half-built building, it has not acted on roofing or wrapping the building, which would cost $250,000 and $100,000 respectively, Hercules Senior Project Manager Greg Dwyer said at a September City Council meeting.

--a building with 40,000 square feet of retail on the ground floor and three stories residential units on top--is currently being marketed by the city, which has acted as the developer on the project.

In August, the Hercules City Council adopted a resolution declaring Sycamore North to be a or "unfeasible" project. The city then changed its for Sycamore North, which was first being pitched as an affordable housing and retail complex to a market rate residential and retail building.
