Sale Of Two High-Profile Properties On Hercules City Council Agenda

The sale of Parcel C and Sycamore Crossing parcels to a private developer and Safeway will be considered by the council

The Hercules City Council will discuss the sale of two city-owned pieces of prime land at their meeting on Tuesday night.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the council chambers, 111 Civic Drive.

The council will consider a proposed $5 million purchase agreement with Safeway's real estate development subsidiary for the 12-acre Sycamore Crossing property.

The plans call for a Safeway store with rooftop parking as well as a Safeway gas station and other retail development.

The land is located at San Pablo Avenue and Sycamore Drive.

The council will also look at an $8 million proposed agreement with Lewis Land Developers to buy the 17-acre property known as Parcel C.

City Manager Steve Duran said Lewis Land officials are planning a residential development on the property near John Muir Parkway, but they haven't determined if it will be apartment, condos, homes or a combination of those types of units.

In August, city officials terminated a purchase agreement for the property with DeNova Homes of Concord.

Another round of bidding was instituted and Duran said Lewis Land was deemed the best offer.

Duran added both Safeway and Lewis Land will hold community meetings to gather public input.
