Robbery, Pool, Seniors, More on Council's Agenda

A mostly procedural agenda will address recreation programs, a proposed parcel tax increase and the local news media.

Aside from the usual routine items, the city council on Tuesday will hear reports on last month's , a parcel tax increase and recruitment for two positions at the senior center. The status of the is also on the agenda.

Mayor Roy Swearingen is scheduled to give an oral report on the police department's response to the armored car robbery. The council also will discuss whether to support a proposed county-wide ballot measure to increase an existing parcel tax to meet state mandates on control of pollution in stormwater runoff. The measure would be on a ballot in the spring.

Also on tap is a request to recruit a coordinator and a recreation activity specialist for the . As proposed, the Pinole Senior Club, not the city, would pay for salaries and benefits earlier this year.

The council will be asked to appoint a subcommittee of volunteers and council members to pursue funding for the swim center from county supervisors John Gioia and Federal Glover. The Pinole Youth Foundation has been chosen by a steering committee to facilitate a to keep the pool open. The effort would try to organize events to raise about $33,000 needed to fund swim center operations next summer.

Finally, the council will consider whether Swearingen should send a letter to Bay Area News Group about its recently announced in the region.

The public portion of the meeting is expected to begin at about 7 p.m., following a 6 p.m. closed session, in City Council Chambers, 2131 Pear St. It will be broadcast live on Pinole TV Channel 26 and streamed live on the city's website.
