Poll: Should Gun Sales Be Allowed in Pinole's Residential Areas?

Proposed city ordinance would ban sales of guns and ammunition from homes.

As we reported in a , the Pinole City Council is set to determine on Tuesday whether gun and ammunition sales should be allowed or forbidden in residential neighborhoods.

In recent months, one applicant has applied to sell guns from his residence and a second sought permission to run a gun repair business from home.

Pinole Police Chief John Hardester is recommending a ban on home sales, citing public health, welfare and safety concerns. Home-based gun sales could attract crime, such as burglaries, and guns could more easily fall into the hands of criminals, he said.

Advocates for the sales argue that requirements such as requiring the locking of up weapons and ammunition would address public safety concerns and would protect the rights of small-businesses and gun owners.
