Police Chief to Give Council Annual Report Tuesday

The rate of serious crimes in Pinole dropped by more than 10 percent in 2011.

Pinole Police Chief John Hardester will present his annual report on the police department Tuesday night, including notification that Part I crimes fell by 10.4 percent from 2010 to 2011. Those crimes include homicide, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny/theft, stolen vehicles and arson.

While the number of robberies increased by 21 percent, assaults decreased by the same percentage, and the number of stolen vehicles fell by 15 percent, according to the report. The full report is included in the attached agenda or on the city website.

Besides the crime data, the report includes an overview of sworn and non-sworn personnel and staffing levels, information about police officer retirements, contributions of volunteers and more.

Also on the council agenda is a workshop to discuss council procedures for scheduling a third meeting per month, as needed, and policies for placing items on council agendas. The council also will consider awarding a $794,782 contract for engineering services related to upgrades at the Water Pollution Control Plant that the city shares with Hercules.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 2131 Pear St. It will be televised live on Pinole TV and is available for live streaming on the city website.
