Pinole City Council To Reconsider Cell Phone Tower Rejection

Verizon officials say they have a valid lease with the city for the tower

The Pinole City Council will take another look at its rejection last month of a cell phone tower in Pinole Valley Park, according to a story in the Contra Costa Times.

On June 18, the council voted 4-1 against a proposed 25-year lease with Verizon to place the 78-foot tower in the park. The company would have paid the city more than $26,000 a year under the agreement.

However, Verizon officials say they have a lease signed by city officials and are threatening to sue if they aren't allowed to construct the communications tower, according to the Times.

The council has agreed to reconsider their rejection of the tower at its meeting next Tuesday.
