Meeting to Address ConocoPhillips Leak

Health and public officials to answer community questions about June 15 leak at ConocoPhillips 66 refinery.

Contra Costa County health authorities will host a community meeting July 2 to address public concern about the  at the ConocoPhillips oil refinery in Rodeo. 

Hydrogen sulfide vapors were released in the air when the seam of a 1.5 million gallon tank storing processed water split that morning, according to statements from county health services officials. 

Local residents reportedly suffered nausea, throat irritation and respiratory symptoms due to the gas leak, and are invited to the July 2 evening meeting to have any concerns related to the leak adressed by public officials.

"... it is important to be transparent when such incidents occur so the public is aware of what happened," Hazardous Materials Ombudsman Michael Kent said in a statement.

The meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, July 2, at the Crockett Community Center, located at 850 Pomona Street.

Representatives from ConocoPhillips 66, County Supervisor Federal Glover’s office, Public Health Director Dr. Wendel Brunner and Chief Environmental Health and Hazardous Materials Officer Randy Sawyer will be at hand to present information and answer questions presented by atendees.
