Hercules Medical Marijuana Dispensary Closes

The Hercules Health Center is "temporarily closed," according to its website.

Hercules Health Center, a medical marijuana dispensary on Alfred Nobel Drive, has temporarily closed.

“We are relocating and will announce our new address in the next day or so,” according to its website.

Hercules Health Center, a “state of the art healing center and medical cannabis cooperative,” as stated on its website, opened in a Hercules business park at the end of 2010. Run by in-house chiropractor Dr. Todd Kaufmann, the cannabis center also offered massage, pain-relief therapies and other services, according to the Contra Costa Times.

The Contra Costa Times reported Wednesday that the dispensary had shut down, but did not report knowing why.

However, Hercules Health Center’s business manager Ed Breslin was arrested Monday on a warrant for grand theft, the Contra Costa Times reported. According to the report, Breslin was in dispute with his commercial landlord at 500 Alfred Nobel Drive, over office furniture. The furniture was eventually returned and he was released Tuesday.

The dispensary had residents divided when it first opened in Hercules. Patch readers shared their opinions about the center in 2010.

Commenter Nicole wrote, “This is much more then a place to stop by to pick up some medication. They provided all around care for their patients. Dr. Kaufmann's office is providing his patients more then just purchasing marijuana and marijuana products. This office cares for their patients. …”

Another commenter, Nalini Johal, disagreed and suggested that the dispensary move to another city. “No marijuana dispensary in our clean city please.....will bring in the riff raff …”
