Hercules Holding Ceremony For The Latest Phase Of The Transit Center Project

A ground-breaking event is scheduled for early September for the trail work at the Intermodal Transit Center site

The latest phase of the Hercules Intermodal Transit Center will officially get under way on Sept. 4 when the city hosts a ground-breaking ceremony.

This phase including grading and construction work on the segment of the San Francisco Bay Trail that sits on the 42-acre project site, according to the weekly report by City Manager Steve Duran.

The improvements will extend from Victoria by the Bay to John Muir Parkway. It'll include preparations for railroad tracks that will bring Amtrak trains to the $76 million transit center.

Last week, the City Council approved an $8 million contract with Goodfellow Top Grade Construction LLC of Livermore for the trail work. The funds are from a mix of state, federal and regional grants as well as local bond measures.

When completed, the transit center will include residential units, retail businesses, public plazas, pedestrian interconnections, a train station and regional bus service.
