Hercules is among the top eight Contra Costa cities in spending for council salaries and meeting fees.

Hercules should review its city council members' salaries, meeting fees, pension benefits and health insurance rates, a Contra Costa Grand Jury report on city council compensation recommends.

Hercules currently pays $93,691 in total council compensation, with $51,960 for salaries and meeting fees; $34,141 for health insurance; $5,059 for pension; and about $2,500 for other costs, the report says.
