Pinole Patch will be publishing the results of Measure K, the proposed parcel tax for West Contra Costa schools as soon as they are released after polls close at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Check Pinole Patch Tuesday night to find the results on Measure K, the ballot measure to renew and increase the parcel tax for West Contra Costa schools.

Polls are scheduled to close at 8 p.m., and we expect results to begin coming in shortly afterward.

The measure would extend the current parcel tax for the West Contra Costa Unified School district for an additional three years, until June 30, 2017. It would also increase the amount from the current 7.2 cents per square foot of building area to 10.2 cents.

Voters first approved the current tax in 2004 and renewed it with 79 percent approval in 2008.

The school board placed the measure on the ballot in part to reduce class sizes in high schools and middle schools and to maintain class sizes in lower grades.
