Three Candidate Hopefuls Start Their Run for Council Seats in Recall Election

Three residents who pulled nomination papers Wednesday to run in the Hercules City Council recall election are the first to indicate their candidacy.

Three residents have taken out nomination papers for the seats of Hercules City Council members Joanne Ward and Don Kuehne, who face a recall election in June.

William Wilkins, Virgilio delaVega and Gerard Boulanger—each with a background in finance—were the first to pull papers Wednesday, Hercules City Clerk Doreen Mathews said.

Potential candidates must specify which seat they plan to run for. Wilkins and delaVega are seeking to unseat Ward, while Gerard Boulanger looks to replace Kuehne.

The city clerk must verify that at least 20 registered Hercules voters signed the petition for nomination before that candidate can be placed on the June 7 election ballot. If there are not enough valid signatures, candidate hopefuls have until March 24 at 5 p.m., when all nomination papers are due, to file supplemental signed petitions.
