Council To Vote On Sale Of Hercules Municipal Utility to PG&E

The Hercules City Council will be asked at its next meeting to approve an agreement to sell the Hercules Municipal Utility to Pacific Gas & Electric Company.

The council meeting begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers at City Hall, 111 Civic Drive.

On the agenda is the proposed sale of the Hercules utility to PG&E for $9.5 million.

Earlier this year, Hercules officials announced they were selling the city-owned utility because the city was losing money operating the agency. They said the sale price would probably just pay off the utility's remaining bond debt.

At the Tuesday meeting, the council will not discuss the upcoming fiscal year budget because city officials are waiting for the outcome of the June 4 utility user tax increase election before making furthur plans.

City finance officials have drawn up two different 2013-2014 budgets, one if Measure A is approved and one if it is defeated.
