Council to Decide on New City Manager Saturday

The decision will be made in closed session, with any action taken announced to the public afterward.

The Hercules City Council will meet in closed session Saturday to conduct a final interview and appoint a new city manager.

The appointee will be the fifth city manager for Hercules in eight months. Former interim Finance Director Liz Warmerdam currently holds the position. She follows Fred Deltorchio, Nelson Oliva and Charles Long.

Oliva served for roughly three years prior to taking a two-month in October, during which time Long took over. Long revealed a number of the city’s financial problems during his brief tenure. He was scheduled to give a presentation on Hercules’ finances on the night he was by the council in December, when Oliva returned for a month before taking a one-year package.

Fred Deltorchio, the city’s longtime police chief, took over from there and at the end of June.

The city is currently Oliva, alleging breach of fiduciary duties and violation of conflict of interest law. It has withheld part of his severance package.
