Contra Costa Judiciary Seeks Citizen Watchdogs
Contra Costa County Superior Court announced is now accepting applications for this year’s Civil Grand Jury.
The Civil Grand Jury is a 19-member committee that monitors, reviews, and makes recommendations about local government and school district issues.
“Grand juries are the citizen watchdogs of civic functions,” said Stephen Conlin, grand jury foreperson. “All county citizens have the authority to call the juries’ attention to the issues within their governmental agencies that they think should be reviewed,” Conlin said.
People interested in serving their communities in this capacity need to be available during the last two weeks in June. Selected individuals will tour county facilities, meet department heads, and learn about what they will be expected to do in the Grand Jury during that time.
The applicants must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of Contra Costa County for at least a year. Elected officials are not eligible for the position.
The time commitment is about 20 hours per week, according to the secretary to the grand jury.
