The city will hold a public workshop Tuesday, March 29 (please see correction), on the results of an independent audit of Hercules' finances.
Representatives from Municipal Rescources Group, the firm hired in January to complete the audit, will present a summary its findings and make recommendations to the city on how Hercules should move forward in light of its financial condition, city spokeswoman Michelle Harrington said.
"The public will most certainly have some opportunity to respond and ask questions," but it's unknown how much time will be available for public input, Harrington said.
Interim City Manager Fred Deltorchio has recently taken major cost-saving measures by cutting contracts and cancelling planned developments in anticipation of a grim report from MRG. Still, the city council has postponed a number of votes on expenditures until the audit is complete and the city and public has heard the findings.
Hercules’ financial troubles were first brought to light by former interim City Manager Charles Long during his tw0-month tenure, which ended in December. Long was before giving a planned presentation on the city’s finances, and the seriousness of the Hercules' financial problems has since been contested by both city officials and residents.
The workshop will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Council Chambers. It will be televised on HCTV and streamed live on the city's website.
Earlier today, this article said the meeting would be on Tuesday, April 1. It will infact be on Tuesday, March 29.
