City Manager's Report: Synchronizing Traffic Lights, Building Permit Activity and More

Pinole City Manager also announces events, fundraisers and playground construction schedules.

The city is applying for grant money to synchronize traffic signals on San Pablo Avenue, Appian Way and Fitzgerald Drive, according to the weekly report from Pinole City Manager Belinda Espinosa.

If the grant is awarded it would be used to coordinate traffic lights to reduce congestion. In all, 22 signals would be timed, some of which would be synchronized with signals operated by Caltrans. The grant request, submitted jointly with the city of Richmond, has been sent to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. The report does not specify a dollar amount.

Also, Espinosa announced that the city is asking Comcast to resolve a problem with a failed trench built along San Pablo Avenue that has resulted in a sub-standard roadway because of erosion.

Espinosa's report also encourages requests for projects, sponors and volunteers for the Second Annual Community Service Day on June 2 and includes information about other upcoming events and fundraisers. One cancelled project is an "Old Town Hoedown" that had been scheduled for May 19, because of the .

The report also sets a construction date of April 18 for the playground and April 24 for the Canyon Park playground.

Finally, the report has a summary of building permit activity in the city, which was down in March, at a value of $503,000 compared to $1.19 million in February.
