City Employees Agree to 16 Percent Pay Cut

Three management employees make concessions.

Three Pinole City Hall management employees have agreed to a 16 percent reduction in salary, Mayor Roy Swearingen said during Tuesday night's City Council meeting.

City Manager Belinda Espinosa, Assistant City Manager Michelle Fitzer and City Clerk Patricia Athenour agreed to the terms. Swearingen made the  announcement to open the public session of the meeting. Prior to the public session, the council met in closed session to negotiate with labor union negotiators. Councilwoman Debbie Long said the three reductions in salary will save the city about $70,000 in the next fiscal year's budget.

Meanwhile, the council was to receive a staff report on the 2011-12 fiscal year budget later during Tuesday night's meeting. We will update news from the meeting as warranted.
