Budget, Cell Phone Tower On Pinole City Council Agenda

The council will discuss budget appropriations as well as the once-rejected communication tower in Pinole Valley Park

At its Tuesday evening meeting, the Pinole City Council will discuss how to spend tax dollars this fiscal year as well as take another look at a proposed cell phone tower they voted against last month.

The meeting begins at  5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pinole City Hall, 2131 Pear St.

Council members are scheduled to hold a public hearing on the proposed  2013/2014 city budget. Afterward, they're expected to vote on the $12.6 million spending plan.

In a budget message, City Manager Belinda Espinosa the city is starting to "come out" of a recession that reduced the city budget by $4 million and required reductions in the city work force of 53 positions.

The council will also reconsider its June 18 decision to reject a proposed cell phone tower in Pinole Valley Park.

Verizon officials have informed the city they plan to sue if they tower isn't allowed to go forward because the company believes it has a lease already in place for the tower's operation.
