Announcement: Sherry McCoy Enters Race for Hercules City Council

Planning Commission Chair Sherry McCoy, who is running for the vacant City Council seat in the June 7 election, outlines her qualifications and motivation for running (originally posted in March).

Ms. McCoy is currently Chair of the Hercules Planning Commission, having served on the Commission for the past 4 years. She is also President of the Board of Directors of the Foxboro Village Homeowner’ s Association. Over the past 20 years, she has been active in numerous community organizations, including both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and as a school volunteer.

“I am running for City Council because, as a long-time resident of Hercules, I am appalled at the crisis our city finds itself in." Ms McCoy said. "The rampant mismanagement, lack of effective oversight and inability of elected officials to represent the citizens of Hercules adequately has left the City of Hercules on the brink of disaster. We need committed people, who can “ hit the ground running” , to dig in and work through our problems, doing the hard work and making the difficult choices that will need to be made. I believe that with my leadership skills, knowledge and expertise combined with my business background, I will be an effective, competent and committed representative on the City Council to ensure that the best decisions are made to move our city forward.”

As the Chair of the Hercules Planning Commission, Ms. McCoy has shown leadership through being an active, diligent commissioner, working closely with other commissioners and staff to ensure projects are fully vetted, in an open and transparent manner. She has encouraged all to participate and provide input at Planning Commission meetings, Town Hall Meetings, Workshops and Task Forces.

"I have shown that I have the commitment, work ethic and temperament needed to work through and make the tough decisions to get our city back on track, ensuring the vision we have for our city moves forward and that Hercules’ reputation is restored.”

Ms. McCoy has a BS in Chemistry and a MBA. She previously worked for over 10 years at a pharmaceutical company, rising to the level of Director with full budgetary and fiscal responsibility for her department. Currently, Ms McCoy and her husband have a small business, providing products and services to the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. Throughout her career in business and as a small business owner, Ms McCoy has diverse experience including budgeting, reviewing contracts and working in a collaborative environment.
