Woman Brandishing Knife Prompts 72-Hour Mental Evaluation

Hercules Police Department officers were greeted with a tense situation Sunday afternoon.

Hercules Police officers were able to talk down a potentially tense situation when they arrived to a Lompico Court residence to a report of an armed woman making threats to others inside the home.

Police report around 3:36 p.m., officers responded to the home after another woman inside called, stating a female was inside making threats to others armed with a knife.

Upon arrival it became evident the woman met criteria for a mental evaluation, said Sgt. Joseph Vasquez.

The woman showed what were described as marks on her wrists indicative of a sharp object being pressed hard against them, Vasquez said.

Vasquez explained though the situation began tense, it calmed down relatively quickly and there were no injuries.

The woman was transported to the Contra Costa County Regional Medical facility for a 72-hour mental health evaluation.
