Emergency crews responded to three separate motorcycle crashes on
Interstate Highway 80 and Interstate Highway 580 in Richmond and Hercules
Wednesday morning, authorities said.
One motorcyclist, a 21-year-old man, was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center with major injuries after a crash that occurred on eastbound Highway 80 at Hilltop Drive around 7:50 a.m., Richmond Fire Battalion Chief Merlin Turner said.
Around the same time, a second biker, a 50-year-old man, was airlifted from Highway 580 near the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge toll plaza to Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo with serious injuries, Turner said.
He had been riding his motorcycle west on the highway around 7:55 a.m. when he collided with another vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Around 8:45 a.m., third motorcyclist was involved in a crash with a pickup truck on westbound Highway 80 near the Willow Avenue exit in Hercules, according to preliminary CHP reports.
The extent of that motorcyclist's injuries was not immediately known.
