Two Men Survive When Car Falls Onto Freeway

The vehicle fell 25 feet from a freeway overpass and landed on its roof.

Bay City News Service—A driver and passenger suffered only minor injuries in a car that fell 25 feet from a freeway overpass and landed in the westbound lanes of interstate Highway 80 in Pinole, a fire battalion chief said this morning.

Emergency responders were called just after midnight to westbound Highway 80 near the Appian Way exit after receiving reports of the crash, according to Pinole Fire Battalion Chief Brian Lowry.

Arriving crews found a Dodge Durango on its roof blocking the freeway's two right-hand lanes.

Investigators learned that the car had been traveling south on the Appian Way overpass when it crashed through a concrete overpass guardrail and fell about 25 feet onto its roof, Lowry said.

The fall partially collapsed the car's passenger compartment. However, the driver, a 20-year-old Concord man, and his passenger, another Concord man, 21, were both able to exit the car without any help and suffered only minor injuries.

Emergency responders treated the men at the scene and an air ambulance that had been called to the scene was cancelled.

Pinole police are investigating what caused the collision.

That's what I was assuming since they were relaxed enought to not really be injured, as is the case with many drunks who injure or kill sober drivers and passengers.
Thanks Alex

Hey Alex. When is the Patch going to bring Rob Shea back? The Pinole Patch had become a real community asset, then you watered it down to the Pinole-Hercules Patch and it has become somewhat of a moribund shadow of itself. The Patch had something good and then let the air out. What gives?

When is the Patch going to bring Rob Shea back? It was a better local blog when he was here, why the change? Now, we get a response from anywhere and nothing local. I always thought it had to do with local activities.

I agree Sal, this is such a flawed plan in so many ways... Its hard to imagine that our City CouncilRead More thinks this is in 'our' best interest!!

I agree; however, it is called "tough love". I know it depends on the age, the situation,Read More etc.

How ironic. I have just such a situation in my life now. Sigh. I think it's payback for theRead More headaches I caused growing up.

In order to feel the victory of success, you must endure some failures. If parents are always thereRead More to make sure the kids don't fail, then what kind of accomplishment or pride can they actual claim?
