A 17-year-old Sacramento boy with warrants for his arrest jumped out of a moving car in an attempt to evade Hercules police on Friday, according to police.
The pursuit began around 1:10 p.m. Friday when an officer patrolling the area of Willow Avenue near Hawthorne Drive tried to stop a 2000 Buick Century sedan for reckless driving, police said.
Instead of stopping, the car sped away and headed west onto Interstate Highway 80, prompting a police pursuit. The chase continued into Richmond, where the Buick exited the freeway, according to police.
Police said the Buick slowed in the 800 block of Ventura Street and the driver and sole occupant, a 17-year-old from Sacramento, attempted to jump out the driver's side window as the vehicle was moving.
The teen opened the passenger door and rolled out of the car as it kept moving and the unoccupied car crashed into two parked vehicles, police said. Police said the boy got up and ran from the scene despite officers' orders to stop.
Officers set up a perimeter around the area and found the teen after a 40-minute search. The boy was arrested in Richmond and taken to Juvenile Hall in Martinez in connection with the police chase and on two outstanding arrest warrants out of Sacramento County, according to police.
No injuries were reported in connection with the chase.
