A physical fight at the corner of Sycamore and San Pablo Avenues started with a confrontation between two drivers, according to the Hercules Police Department.

The reporting party called police from the parking lot of the nearby Shell gas station. Hercules police shared the following:

She stated she was stopped for a red light at Sycamore Ave [at] San Pablo Ave. when a white Mercedes SUV tried to merge into her lane.  The Mercedes reportedly blocked traffic and other vehicles began honking at it. The reporting party said the driver of the Mercedes thought she was the one honking and approached the reporting party’s driver’s side window on foot. The suspect punched the reporting party in the face one time. The reporting party said she defended herself by hitting the suspect in the face. The suspect fled the area.  The investigation is continuing.

Look for more of this to come when Sycamore crossings or the site formerly known as Market Hall are built out, with Safeway and sixteen gas pumps. Not to mention the car on pedestrian treats posed by the idiotic right turn on red at that corner, giving preference to vehicles heading to the freeway versus pedestrians and the ridiculous lack of proper planning for pedestrians at the ingress and egress to Market Hall and whatever the existing strip mall/gas station is called. Absolutely horrendous planning for all concerned. Say farewell to walking from the waterfront to any points east, including the transit center. Well actually, we already have.
