Background

The Times reported that city was already trying to fill four vacancies with federal grant money to reopen Station 74 in the valley. The four new departures at Station 73 downtown will leave a total of eight positions to fill.

Three of the firefighters are headed to the Rodeo-Hercules Fire Department. The other firefighter is going to Vallejo, according to the Times.

In addition, interim fire chief Carlos Rodriguez prepares to take over for departing chief Charles Hanley next month. Hanley has been overseeing both the Pinole and Rodeo-Hercules departments.

Any thoughts on why the shuffle and what it means?
