Officers were called to a report of a burglary at a house in the 2300 block of Redwood Road around 8:20 p.m., according to Detective Connie Van Putten.

A resident reported a man had shattered the home's back sliding glass door and forced open a locked downstairs bedroom door, police said.

The resident said he was coming down the stairs when he saw the man, then ran back upstairs and locked himself into a room.

Police said the resident didn't see the suspect leave the home, and that officers did not spot him as they arrived on the scene moments later.

With the aid of San Pablo and Pinole police and a police K-9, officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

No items were reported stolen from the home.

Police said officers were called about 25 minutes later to a house several blocks away, in the 1800 block of Redwood Road.

A resident had discovered a handgun in their driveway that did not belong to them.

Officers investigating the area where the gun was found saw that a bullet hole had pierced the home's garage door, leaving a dent in a vehicle parked inside the garage.

Another resident reported hearing a gunshot and a vehicle speeding away from the area around 8:30 p.m., police said.

No injuries were reported.

Police said the gun left in the driveway was reported stolen out of Idaho in 2007.

Van Putten said police "have no way of knowing" whether the burglary and the gunfire are related.
