Pinole Teen Arrested After High-Speed Chase Down Sycamore Avenue

Driver was reportedly involved in a domestic violence incident in Pinole

A 18-year-old Pinole man was arrested on a half-dozen charges after police say he led them on a high-speed chase down one of Hercules' busiest roads and crashed into a home in a residential area on Thursday afternoon.

Authorities say the incident began at 4:47 p.m. when a Hercules police officer noticed a silver Nissan speed through a red light at Sycamore Avenue and Refugio Valley Road.

The officer pursued the vehicle eastbound on Sycamore Avenue. Authorities say the Nissan driver ran several stop signs while accelerating to 60 miles per hour.

The officer relayed the vehicle's description and license plate number to the dispatch center. The officer was told the car was involved in a domestic violence incident in Pinole.

The Nissan turned right on Lupine Road and increased its speed to 80 miles per hour, authorities said.

The vehicle eventually crashed into a garage in the 2200 block of Lupine Road. The Nissan was upside down and sitting on a fence and two vehicles that were parked in the driveway.

The Nissan driver, identified Friday as Alberto Morales, was taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance. His injuries were minor and he was treated and released.

Morales was then arrested by Pinole police and taken to County Jail in Martinez. He is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting corporal injury on a spouse/co-inhabitant, criminal threats, false imprisonment, damage to telephone or power lines, felony evading of a police officer and driving under the influence of alcohol.

A Hercules building inspector examined the Lupine Road home after the accident and determined the dwelling is uninhabitable at this time.
