Hercules Resident Reported Sexual Assault of a Relative in Benicia; Suspect Arrested

A 34-year-old Benicia man was behind bars Sunday, arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting an underage teen relative.

According to the Hercules Police Depaertment, on March 16 "a Hercules Resident wanted to report a sexual assault (of a relative) which occurred, in the city of Benicia, yesterday. The Officer confirmed the location of the alleged crime and contacted Benicia PD. Benicia requested the resident respond to their agency for the report."

Michael Joseph Wallace ran off before police arrived but was later found at a home in the 200 block of Manhattan Street, in Vallejo, a police lieutenant said.

A woman told police she arrived at her home in the 700 block of East Military Street about 1:45 a.m. Sunday to find her husband assaulting the relative, Benicia police Lt. Frank Hartig said.

When found, he was taken into custody without incident, Hartig said.

Wallace was booked into the Solano County Jail on suspicion of multiple counts of unlawful intercourse with a minor and other felonies, the lieutenant said.
