Hercules Police Log: Thefts, Fires And Fights

Here are some of the items on the Hercules Police Department log from May 24 to May 28.

Friday, May 24

Identity Theft: A resident of Mesa Court contacted police at 8:34 a.m. to report an unknown person had stolen her identity to file fraudulent tax returns in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Fire assistance: Hercules police helped evacuate residents on Newbury after a grass fire threatened structures there. The blaze burned grassland between the neighborhood and Highway 4. Three homes suffered minor damage.

Saturday, May 25

Injury accident: Hercules police responded to an accident on Willow Avenue at the westbound Interstate 80 on-ramp. Officers found a man and a woman standing next to their cars, unhurt. They also found another man pinned inside his car. Firefighters cut the man out of the vehicle and took him to the hospital.

Monday, May 27

Party fight: At 12:33 a.m., police responded to a fight at a home on the 200 block of Catalina. Officers had been at the residence earlier in the evening and shut down a party. This time, they encountered a group of four young men fighting. Two of the men were determined to be the aggressors and were arrested. They were later given citations and released.

Taxi fight: Police were called to another fight, this one at 7:26 p.m. in the 800 block of Willow Avenue. A taxi driver said two young women were punching each other in the back of his cab. Police were unable to determine who was the aggressor. The women were released into the custody of one of the women's mother.

Tuesday, May 28

Auto burglary: At 4:48 a.m., a resident on Ridgeview reported his Toyota 4 Runner had been burglarized overnight. The thief broke the driver side rear view window to get inside. The car's owner said he heard his vehicle alarm go off at 11 p.m. but didn't check on his Toyota.

Auto burglaries: At 11:19 a.m., police responded to reports of auto burglaries in the 600 block of Alfred Nobel. Officers discovered three cars that had been broken into. One victim said he chased a suspect, but the man got away in a black Mercedes with paper plates. Police searched the area but didn't find the suspect.

Female fighting: At 12:38 p.m., officers arrived at the 500 block of Dutch Elm to find an 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl fighting. The two had to be separated. The woman had bitten the teen on the thumb and cheek. The woman was arrested on battery charges. The girl's mother arrived and took her daughter to the doctor.
