Hercules Police Log: Thefts, Burglaries, Officer Injured

Some of the incidents that kept Hercules police officers busy this past week

Here are some of the items from the Hercules police logs from Aug. 1 to Aug. 6.

Thursday, Aug. 1

Strong arm robbery: A resident notified police at 11:40 a.m. that another man had threatened him and took money from him. The victim said he met the suspect at Refugio Valley Park to purchase an iPad. The victim said he drove the suspect to a spot on Partridge to complete the transaction. Once there, the suspect threatened the victim and demanded money. The man handed over the cash he had for the iPad purchase. The suspect then ran off.

Friday, Aug. 2

Purse theft: Officers went to a housing complex in the 1500 block of Sycamore Avenue. They were told a woman living there had left her purse in the lobby. A maintenance worker placed the purse in the main office. Security video showed a woman entering the office and taking the purse. More than $2,400 was later charged on the credit cards of the victim, a 90-year-old woman.

Home burglary attempt: Officers were dispatched at 9:31 p.m. to a home on the 100 block of Stone Pine Court after an alarm was triggered. Officers found the front door ajar and damaged. No one was inside. The resident arrived, checked the house and found that nothing was taken.

Saturday, August 3

Stolen car: A resident on the 1000 block of North Shelter Bay called police at 12:06 p.m. to report that his silver 2000 Toyota Tacoma had been stolen from the front of his home overnight.

Domestic disturbance: At 7:10 p.m., police went to a home on the 100 block of Heather to investigate a domestic disturbance. They determined a 34-year-old man had assaulted his girlfriend, then broke items around the house. When his mother tried to call police, the man grabbed her cell phone and destroyed. The man was arrested.

Sunday, Aug. 4

Attempted auto theft: A resident on the 1200 block of Chelsea called police at 10:47 p.m. to report two men were outside trying to break into his Pontiac Firebird. The suspects were gone when police arrived.

Monday, Aug. 5

Officer injured: At 4:27 p.m., a police officer tried to question a man drinking in public. The suspect, a 26-year-old Hercules resident, refused to stop and walked past the officer. Another officer grabbed the suspect, who tried to pull away. The two officers were able to subdue the suspect and place him in handcuffs. However, the suspect lunged at one of the officers, falling on his leg. The officer was taken to a hospital, where it was determined he had a broken left leg. The suspect was arrested on felony resisting and obstructing.

Tuesday, Aug. 6

Home burglary: A resident on the 100 block of Thistle Court called police at 11:17 p.m. to report her home had been burglarized between 8:45 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. The burglar entered through an unlocked window in the kitchen. Items taken included a television and other electronics.
