Hercules Police Log: Felony DUI, Accidental Shooting, Meat Embezzlement

Some of the instances that kept Hercules police officers busy this past week

Here are some of the items from the Hercules Police Department logs from August 30 to Sept. 3.

Friday, August 30

Felony DUI arrest: Officers responded at 3:08 a.m. to a report of a man slumped over the wheel of his car in the 1300 block of Pinole Valley Road. Officers found the man exiting his parked red Nissan Quest. The 51-year-old El Cerrito man was arrested for driving under the influence. Since the man has had four previous DUI convictions in the past 10 years and is currently on probation, he was booked on felony charges.

Public intoxication: Officers observed a man pushing his car along the 300 block of Turquoise Drive at 9:47 p.m. The man told officers he had gotten into an argument with his mother and was pushing the Nissan Maxima to the Lucky's parking lot. The 30-year-old man was arrested for public intoxication.

Saturday, August 31

Accidental shooting: Officers went to a home on the 500 block of Black Walnut Court at 3:53 a.m. to investigate a report of a woman accidentally shooting herself in the foot. Officers determined the woman and her husband had struggled over a gun after the man had told his wife to shoot him. The gun accidentally discharged and hit her in the foot. The man was taken to Contra Costa Regional Health Center for a mental health evaluation.

Sunday, Sept. 1

Auto burglary: A golfer at the Franklin Canyon Golf Course called police at 3:05 p.m. to report that someone had broken the driver's window of his car in the course parking lot while he was golfing. The burglar stole Freon and detector.

Monday, Sept. 2

Another DUI arrest: Police were dispatched at 9:13 p.m. to Rite Aid to investigate a report of an intoxicated man getting into a car. Officers observed a maroon Hyundai leave the parking lot, continue up Turquoise Drive and then park in the Lucky's lot. The driver, a 61-year-old Hercules man, was arrested for driving under the influence.

Tuesday, Sept. 3

Yet another DUI arrest: At 12:02 a.m., officers stopped a silver 2006 Acura MDX for running a stop sign on the 1300 block of Willow Avenue. The driver, a 21-year-old Danville woman, was arrested for driving under the influence.

Embezzlement arrest: At 3 p.m., officers were notified by employees at the Lucky's supermarket on Sycamore Avenue that a co-worker had stolen two carts filled with meat worth $700 from the store the day before. The employee, a 46-year-old Hercules man, was arrested for embezzlement.
