Hercules Police Log: False Vehicle Theft, Injured Skateboarder, Stolen Drug Car

Some of the incidents that kept Hercules police officers busy this past week

Here are items from the Hercules Police Department logs from August 17 to August 21.

Saturday, August 17

Bench destroyed: A resident contacted police at 11:43 a.m. to report that a bench at the bus stop at San Pablo Avenue and Linus Pauling had been destroyed after being hit by a vehicle. No one witnessed the incident, so there is no description of the vehicle.

Sunday, August 18

Vehicle theft... not!: A woman notified police at 6:30 a.m. to report her 2006 black Dodge Charger had been stolen from outside her home on the 200 block of Cinnabar. The vehicle was discovered on a hillside near the Ohlone Dog Park. Officers said the woman's 22-year-old daughter admitted she had crashed the car about 3 a.m., came home and went to sleep without telling her mother. Investigators say they determined the mother knew her car wasn't stolen when she called. Investigators are looking into the possibility of charges for filing a false police report.

Drunk in public: An officer pulled into the parking lot of a business on the 1500 block of Sycamore Avenue and noticed a 30-year-old Hercules man throwing a white plastic cup into the garbage. The officer found a half bottle of vodka in the man's pockets and determined the cup had beer in it. The man was arrested for being intoxicated in public.

Monday, August 19

Hit-Run collision: A resident called police at 9:30 a.m. to report his 2006 Toyota had been struck by another vehicle overnight in front of his home on Titan Way. There were no witnesses to the incident, so there is no description of the hit-run vehicle.

Skateboarder hurt: Police were dispatched to Turquoise Drive at 7:55 p.m. for reports of a person down in the street. Officers discovered an 18-year-old Rodeo resident who had been injured while riding his skateboard down the street. Paramedics took the young man to the hospital. Witnesses said the man's skateboard developed a "high speed wobble" just before the crash.

Stolen car, drugs: A vehicle sped away from a patrol officer at 11:14 p.m. on Vaqueros. The driver abandoned the Nissan Pathfinder and ran off. Officers were unable to find the suspect. The car was determined to be stolen from Oakland. Inside were a 9mm handgun, two grams of methamphetamine and marijuana.

Wednesday, August 21

Drug arrest: An officer stopped a car at 3:32 a.m. in the 600 block of Parker Avenue. The driver, a 35-year-old Rodeo woman, was driving with a suspended license. Officers also said they found methamphetamine inside the woman's purse. She was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

Computer theft: A woman called police at 7:46 p.m. to report an Apple Macbook Pro and some computer software had been stolen from her car in front of her residence on the 100 block of Cardoza. The loss is estimated at almost $2,000.
