Head-On Collision Sends 3 to Hospital

A nearby pedestrian was struck during the collision, fire officials said.

By Bay City News—

Three people were hospitalized after a head-on crash Thursday evening in Pinole, a Contra Costa County fire battalion chief said.

Crews responded to a report of a crash in the area of Appian Way and Marlesta Road at about 6:20 p.m., Battalion Chief Lon Goetsch said.

When crews arrived, they located a two-car head-on crash and three significantly injured people, according to Goetsch.

In the crash, one of the cars careened off Appian Way and hit a pedestrian on the sidewalk, the battalion chief said.

Crews provided medical aid to those injured at the scene.

An air ambulance was unable to make it to the site of the crash because of the poor weather conditions, Goetsch said.

All three injured people were transported by ambulance to hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately available, but Goetsch said one needed emergency care during transport to the hospital.

More information was not immediately available.
