Former Death Row Inmate Allegedly Kills Own Mother

Dennis Stanworth pleaded guilty to two Pinole killings in 1966.

By Bay City News

VALLEJO (BCN) – A former death row inmate who said he killed his own mother turned himself in to Vallejo police Wednesday, police said.

The man, identified as 70-year-old Dennis Stanworth, called police at 11:55 a.m. to report the death.

Officers responded to his home in the 2500 block of Marshfield Road. Police said that once there, Stanworth brought them to the woman's body.

The woman's identity has not been confirmed, but police believe she was Nellie Turner Stanworth, 89, the suspect's mother.

Stanworth was booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of murder.

Police said he pleaded guilty in 1966 to kidnapping, sexually assaulting and killing two teenage girls in Pinole.

He was sentenced to death, but later his sentence was reversed and he was given a life sentence. He was then paroled and registered with Valljeo police as a sex offender.

Sadly, he did much more than "sexually assaulting and killing two teenage girls in Pinole." - The guy should not have seen the outside of jail cell... Please read - http://scocal.stanford.edu/opinion/people-v-stanworth-22555

How do people like that end up in our general population again? Death row inmates, unless cleared of all charges, should not be allowed to put the public at risk.

Liberal decision makers who are light on crime. Same reason as to why Polly Klass was murdered, Amber Swartz-Garcia, and the cause for much of the crime in the Bay Area with the early prisoner release program that the State has active at this very moment. Sad, Sad, Sad.

Sadly, my son found the girls. It was a traumatic experience for Bo.

Wow, that's awful. I'm sorry to hear that, Bill.

I agree Sal, this is such a flawed plan in so many ways... Its hard to imagine that our City CouncilRead More thinks this is in 'our' best interest!!

I agree; however, it is called "tough love". I know it depends on the age, the situation,Read More etc.

How ironic. I have just such a situation in my life now. Sigh. I think it's payback for theRead More headaches I caused growing up.

In order to feel the victory of success, you must endure some failures. If parents are always thereRead More to make sure the kids don't fail, then what kind of accomplishment or pride can they actual claim?
