Car Flipped on I-80 Near Carquinez Bridge

A medical helicopter responded to a one-car accident near Pomona Street off-ramp.

The California Highway Patrol on Thursday issued a Sig-alert for eastbound Interstate 80 near the Carquinez Bridge, where a vehicle overturned after hitting some sand barrels.

The crash was reported at about 12:30 p.m. near the Pomona Street off-ramp in the Crockett area. Initial reports indicated that the vehicle involved is an SUV.

The car overturned, and some sand has spilled from the barrels onto the roadway, CHP Officer James Evans said.

The Sig-alert was issued because the No. 3 lane, or the slow lane, is blocked, he said.

He did not know the extent of any injuries resulting from the crash but said a medical helicopter has been called to the scene.
