-Message from the Hercules Library Foundation.
In July 2011, a group of Hercules library supporters formed the Hercules Emergency Library Project (HELP) to raise funds to insure that the library would remain open 40 hours per week for the next fiscal year. The group set a goal of raising $50,000 by June 30, 2012.
Working closely with the Friends of the Hercules Library, HELP achieved this goal on April 30, two months ahead of schedule and has now raised $50,087! During the past year, HELP raised over $21,000 with its Fabulous Friends, Families and Business Campaign to recognize one-time donations of $1000 or more and over $12,000 by hosting the 6 Anniversary Dinner-Dance in October 2011.
Throughout the year, HELPers passed out flyers, spoke at City Council meetings and Library programs, worked at garage sales and Chamber of Commerce events, and passed the donation jug whenever possible. However, raising the money really came down to the generosity of the Hercules community and library supporters throughout our surrounding area. These individuals, families, businesses and non-profit groups have recognized that people depend on libraries more than ever, that libraries are a public good and a civic responsibility and that the Hercules Library is an anchor in our community. Everyone involved with HELP and the Friends of the Hercules Library are truly grateful to the donors who have made this such a successful endeavor.
Since it was formed on an emergency basis, the plan has always been to disband HELP as of June 30, 2012. The job of carrying on this important fundraising will be taken over by the Hercules Community Library Foundation. With a full 9 member Board of Directors, the Foundation’s mission is to solicit and manage contributions to supplement public funding with the goal of ensuring that the Hercules Public Library continues to provide outstanding free and convenient services for their community.
The Foundation’s premier fundraising event will be the Sixth Anniversary Gala Dinner-Dance on October 27, 2012. Log onto the Foundation website at herculeslibraryfoundation.com for details of this and other events and news.
A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE HERCULES LIBRARY COMMUNITY FOR HELPING US REACH OUR GOAL!
