Happy New Year everyone. 2013! Wow that sure makes me feel old, or older depending on the mood I’m in. During my campaign for Pinole City Council I was left with some lasting impressions; having face to face conversations with so many of you, the members of my community, served as a reminder of how intelligent and caring you are. I would have been proud to represent you. Many of you raised questions, expressed opinions and voiced valid concerns. With this blog, “Life as I know it” I will stay connected with you and have fun doing it. I realize that it is very difficult to stay informed about local issues when parents are working and raising a family, or in the case of many others, they simply don’t quite “get” all the political jargon and the acronyms that are tossed about like so many pieces of confetti. Frankly, it takes a concerted effort to stay informed and be able to follow the bouncing political ball. This is a new world and many residents get their news via the internet. When was the last time you saw anything in the news, hard copy or online, that speaks to any of the concerns of the average family or resident in Pinole? Those concerns are the impetus for this blog, "Life as I know It", http//riccofreako.com/ I am opening the door to a dialogue about the things you feel are important to you. I invite you to send me your questions, thoughts, ideas and comments.

Hi Ivette, I would like to read your blog. I am also computer iliterate (well, pretty much). How do I get myself connected? Do I need to type in the address every time or can I get it automatically thru my email? Thanks for your help. Great idea. I am a local realtor and I live in Pinole so, on many levels, I should stay informed Thank you, Cindy Wilson Gattenby

The Patch has become a cluttered mess. It is hardly readable any longer. I'll returned to local blogs, email, and Yahoo News for my info. Too bad. It had promise.

I agree with Phil. Ever since the merger of Pinole and Hercules patch I've become less interested. I want Hercules focused news.

I agree with Phil as well; the Patch has lost relevance for me and I rarely visit it anymore. I preferred the Pinole only version and only local commenting. Pretty much an afterthought for me now....

Watching wonderful people who write get slammed and slandered by people who do not agree with their views is a huge turnoff. Not into it. Nor am I into the slamming of council people or citizens based on their views or opinions. Not right. There is a contingent who do this, especially in the Hercules area. They degrade council people and residents who are not like minded. There is absolutely no "agreeing to disagree". At all. With this group, it turns into 'my way or the highway". While saying no names, all I can say is the Patch becomes one sided with this contingent, and constructive dialog cannot be reached. As in NEVER. Many have tried to screen and delete opinions and comments. To NO avail. The ultimate is seeing a former Patch commenter rendered silent by a current council person in Hercules. People will say, freedom of speech is an amendment and trumps all, BUT, Mr. or Ms. opinion person, what if this happened to you as what happened to Mr. Von Aspern? Until it happens to you personally, you will never understand the implications. At the moment, I find the Patch irrelevant because it does not remove nor edit heinous posts by people who refuse to have constructive discussion, who slam council members, and say it's their right to do so. Whatever. Don't know about Pinole, but with this new council, Hercules is going to hell.

Well, my post was deleted by the editors a few weeks ago, and believe me, it was not even as devisive as the two posts I was responding to. It made no sense whatsoever. But, I am not here to cause arguments or getting into finger pointing. I really come to the Patch to get information. I don't like the format. It is hard to see what people are writing about. I like the format on claycord.com better.
