Obituaries: Norwegian Native, Rodeo Resident

Some of the people with connections to the Pinole-Hercules area who have passed away recently

Samson Ulversoy, a long-time resident of Pinole, was born in Norway. He left home at age 15 to train on a Norwegian sailing ship. He traveled the world as a merchant marine for 10 years, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He then worked at Southern Pacific Railroad for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He also painted houses in Pinole and built picnic tables and small boats. Ulversoy died on August 16 at the age of 92.

Douglas Crossley, a resident of Rodeo, is remembered as a talented, caring, funny man. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, six children, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Crossley died on August 14 at the age of 67.
