Water Main Break Affects Two Major Businesses, Reduces Water Pressure to Homes

The break happened under a creek bed.

A water main break in Hercules has affected water supplies to two major businesses, East Bay Municipal Utility District officials said Sunday.

The break to a 24-inch line was first reported shortly after 3 p.m., when customers began calling the district complaining of low water pressure, said district spokeswoman Angela Pook.

Crews discovered the break near Willow Avenue and Hawthorne Drive, essentially right under a creek bed, Pook said. Water was shut off to the damaged line around 5:30 p.m.

The line in question provides water to two commercial customers, C&H Sugar and ConocoPhillips. Those businesses are currently being fed water through a parallel line.

While water service to residential customers was not cut off, the break did affect water pressure in the area and some residents with problems such as debris in their lines may have lost service altogether, Pook said.

Any residents experience problems with their water service should contact water district officials immediately for assistance, she said.
