Second Successive Spare the Air Alert Issued

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District predicts high smog levels for Wednesday.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued a Spare the Air alert for Contra Costa County and beyond for Wednesday, saying the midweek brings unhealthy levels of air pollutants.

It’s the second smog alert in a row the Air District issued this week and the third alert so for this summer.

“Air pollution we generate daily, caused mostly by driving, will combine with high temperatures to create unhealthy levels of smog,” said Jack Broadbent, executive officer of the Air District. “Reducing the number of cars on Bay Area roads every day will help avoid unhealthy air quality.”

The Air District recommends residents bike, walk, take public transportation or carpool to work at least twice a week to cut down on smog contributions.
