Pinole, Hercules Both Record 0.4 Percent in Population Growth Last Year

New state report shows both cities added a couple hundred people in 2012

Both Hercules and Pinole's population grew by 0.4 percent last year.

Figures released by the state Department of Finance show both Hercules and Pinole added about 200 residents in 2012.

Hercules' population now stands at 24,403, making it the sixth smallest of Contra Costa's 19 incorporated cities. It's about the same size as Lafayette.

Pinole's population is now 18,664, making it the fourth smallest city in the county. It's similar in size to Orinda.

Concord is the largest city in the county with more than 123,000 people. The smallest city is next door in Clayton, which has slightly more than 11,000 people.

Contra Costa County's population grew by 0.8 percent last year to 1,074,072.

Over in Alameda County, Dublin had the second highest growth rate in California with 6.8 percent.

California's population increased by 0.8 percent to 37,966,471.
