Our Own History Book, Mother's Day and Finance Meeting

...in this short version of 5 Things You Need To Know This Week.

Due to some exciting new content rolling out on Hercules Patch later in the week, we’ve put together a condensed version of 5 Things… for you this Monday. Not to worry, the column will be back to its regular, perhaps too long, version next week.

1)  In case you missed the news, Hercules has its very own history book, and it hit the shelves Monday. The Hercules Historical Society, which helped put , the book, together, will host a book launch at the Hercules Library from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Authors of Hercules will be at the event, signing copies of the book.

2) Hercules’ financial think tank—the Citizens Advisory Finance Ad Hoc Committee and Finance Subcommittee—will meet Tuesday for more talks on how the city can steer itself away from financial meltdown. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chambers.

3) On Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the and Seafood Care will host a golfer-friendly Spring Swing fundraiser to benefit the Breast Cancer Society. The event will be held at the Franklin Canyon Golf Course and will include lunch, multiple golfing contest, prime rib dinner, raffle, silent auction and prizes. For the whole day, tickets run $90. If you just want to go for dinner, tickets are $45. For more information and to register, email: herculespowderkeg@gmail.com.

4)  This week, Sunday happens to be Mother’s Day. So we’re publishing a digital photo album of the Hercules Teen Council’s mother-daughter fashion show that took place over the last weekend. Mother’s Day celebrations are scarce in Hercules. If you’ve heard about anything worth celebrating with the lady who gave you life, let Hercules Patch know in comments.

5) Back to the “exciting new content” Hercules Patch is rolling out this week. That’s right, the site will have multiple blogs by week's end for residents to share their thoughts, hobbies, passions, gripes and just about everything else. If you’re interested in having your own blog on Hercules Patch, get in touch with yours truly (laila.kearney@patch.com) and we can get to talking.
