Major Crash Off Cummings Clogs Highway 4

Highway 4 was shut down due to the auto accident.

Bay City News—A section of westbound state Highway 4 in unincorporated Contra Costa County was shut down this afternoon because of a major-injury crash, California Highway Patrol Sgt. John Carman said.

The crash was reported at 3:07 p.m. between Cummings Skyway and Franklin Canyon Road, near Hercules.

Initial reports indicated that a vehicle had overturned and people were still inside, Carman said.

The CHP closed the all westbound lanes of the highway between Cummings Skyway and Franklin Canyon Road to allow a medical helicopter to land on the roadway, Carman said.

The crash was cleared and the roadway reopened at about 3:45 p.m.
