Hercules Population Holds Steady in 2011

The California Department of Finance released its population study Tuesday.

A report released by the California Department of Finance showed that the population increased in Hercules from 24,153 to 24,272 in 2011. At half a percent growth rate, the city compares with nearby cities such as Pinole, El Cerrito and Martinez.

The overall growth rate for Contra Costa County also held steady with only .8 percent increase in the past year. San Jose and Fresno were among the Northern California cities that posted some of the largest increases.

California's population grew by 251,000. The yearly report is used to calculate annual appropriations limit and follows population growth between Jan. 2011 and Jan. 2012.
